The New Britain Symphony is thrilled to announce the 2011-2012 Season. We invite you to our new Magnum Opus Series, three full symphonic concerts produced in collaboration with the Connecticut Virtuosi in Welte Hall at CCSU, as well as a collection of mini-concerts performed in various venues throughout New Britain, Berlin, and Kensington. Join us for a season of glorious and inspiring music!
Magnum Opus Series
New Britain Symphony and The Connecticut Virtuosi are pleased to collaborate on three full symphonic concerts during the 2011-2012 Season. By working together, the organizations aim to offer a fresh approach to symphonic music for both new and existing audiences in New Britain and the central Connecticut region.
Adrian Sylveen, artistic director of the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, is serving as artistic director and conductor of the Magnum Opus Series.
The first concert takes place on Sunday, October 2, at 4 p.m. All concerts are performed in Welte Hall on the campus of CCSU in New Britain.
We are unable to sell tickets or collect donations at the door, however, to help cover production costs, we invite patrons to mail a donation to the New Britain Symphony, P.O. Box 1253, New Britain, CT 06050. Donations may be made both before and after the concert dates. Your support, in any amount, is greatly appreciated and will allow us to continue to bring outstanding symphonic programming to the central Connecticut region.
The first concert garnered a standing ovation from the enthusiastic audience, which included residents from New Britain, Newington, and Bristol, as well as from towns as far away as Orange and Chester.
Audiences of all ages and backgrounds will enjoy our next concert, a festive holiday program on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 4:00 p.m., which includes the famous theme from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (made popular by Disney’s Fantasia) and a collection of Christmas carols from Poland and other places around the world. The Paderewski Choir and the New Britain Chorale perform with the NBSO on this special occasion.
